The town of Mazamet is a typical French town with good amenities for both visitors and its residents alike. Within a short stroll from the gates of La Villa de Mazamet you can be enjoying a cold drink at a pavement cafe, watching the locals play petanque in the park, or sampling the fresh produce at the market.
Guests staying at La Villa de Mazamet enjoy exclusive discounts in Mazamet’s shops, cafés & restaurants with our free loyalty card. When you arrive, you will receive your card & a map of the Town centre that contains details of the businesses taking part and the exclusive guest discount they are offering
A good variety of shops & boutiques can be found in the “Centre Ville” area of Mazamet which is a five min walk from La Villa. Typical opening hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-Noon and 2.30pm -7pm.
In addition to dinners at La Villa, we can recommend local bistros and restaurants for both lunch & dinner – these are all within walking distance. (There are also a number of restaurants within a 15 min drive, from rustic local fare to Michelin star.)
There are many parks & open spaces in and around Mazamet, the closest of which “Le Jardin des Promenades” is a beautifully maintained park just 100 metres from La Villa. A place to sit and watch a game of pentanque or, during the summer, a free concert in the bandstand on a Sunday evening.
Mazamet has three markets each week, the largest of which are on Tuesday & Saturday mornings between 7am and Noon. The Sunday market, for essentials, starts at 9am. The market stalls set up close to the office of the Mayor where there are bars & cafes to sit and people watch.
During July & August, a "Producers" market also takes place on Monday evenings where you can buy food & drink produced in the area and sit amongst the locals on picnic tables.
In addition to our own ideas and suggestions, the Tourist Office is a great reference point and located just an 8 min walk away. Within the tourist office there is also a small exhibition space which changes it’s displays twice a year; a room that replicates a typical Mazametain home in the 1800’s and the first museum in the world dedicated to Catharisme.
Year-round Mazamet plays host to many events, ranging from a flower show to a car rally. When making your reservation, enquire about likely events that are taking place during your stay at La Villa.
Take advantage of the newly opened cycle path that commences in Mazamet for 85km; cycle hire starts from just 18 € a day with the bikes being delivered to La Villa for you. You only need cycle 200 metres from the gates of La Villa to join the cycle path, this facility has also been enjoyed by guests who like an early morning run.
