What to do in Mazamet this summer

Marche de Producteurs Mazamet

Le Marché des Producteurs

On Monday July 6th, the fantastic Marché des Producteurs commences in Mazamet. This wonderful event is a showcase for local food & drinks with around 15 stalls selling their wares, a table to seat 200 and what the French call ‘conviviality’ (coming together to enjoy a good time). You’ll live and breathe South West France!

With live music, great food, wine and atmosphere, this is THE place to spend a Monday evening when in Mazamet.

The Marché runs from 5pm-10pm in the car park adjacent to the Grand Balcon restaurant and takes place each Monday evening until August 31st. If you are not staying with us at La Villa over a Monday night, there’s a chance to catch the marché every Tuesday evening in nearby Castres.

Torchlight Processions in Hautpoul

procession aux flambeaux de Hautpoul

At night, with the changing light of torches carried by visitors, the old medieval castrum reveals its history, its dramas (the siege by Simon de Montfort and the flight of the Cathars) and its legends through theatrical visits lead by a troubadour and professional guide. The journey begins at the foot of the statue of the virgin, takes you by the mythical chestnut tree and the old washhouse, and ends on the esplanade of the castle ruins.
The talent and passion of the guide / troubadour allows you to immerse yourself in the mysterious atmosphere of the place and picture the tragedies that once took place there.

August: Tuesday 4, Wednesday 5, Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 and Tuesday 18

Lac des Montagnès

Unfortunately, the traditional Bastille Day fireworks which takes places at the Lac des Montagnès has been canceled this year. However, the lake is still one of the main attractions in the area. With a free shuttle bus up and back, or a fun, windy 10-minute drive, it would be criminal not to go take a look – or a swim! If our pool doesn’t satisfy your cravings, head to the supervised beach! Lifeguards will be on duty from Saturday July 4 to Monday August 31, 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Why not make a day of it by taking a picnic (we can provide a cooler) or reserving dinner at the Chalet du Lac restaurant?

Apollo Cinema

With two 3D-capable theaters screening a healthy mix of classic and modern, French and foreign films, the Apollo cinema is another cool place to spend a hot summer afternoon. It’s open every day and tickets are only 7.90€.

Happy summer!
