La Villa’s History

Just a short stroll from the centre of the market town of Mazamet, La Villa is one of the area’s landmark buildings dating to a time when Mazamet had world importance for its wool industry.

After extensive renovations, La Villa de Mazamet now opens its doors as a luxury “Chambres d’hôtes, tables d’hôtes” (bed & breakfast with restaurant) – offering five sumptuous air-conditioned guest bedrooms, restaurant, gardens & swimming pool; in addition to ‘Le Petit Spa’ with its sauna, jacuzzi and a range of massages.

OUR RESTORATION

We are only the third owners of La Villa de Mazamet since it was built for an accountant in Mazamet’s wool industry in 1934 – a year that always amazes our guests as it looks so much older! We named the property “La Villa de Mazamet” as the name “La Villa” appeared on the original plans, now displayed on our hall walls.

We took the keys to La Villa on a bitterly cold day, December 18th 2005, and there began a restoration and renovation that would lead us up to just one week prior to opening our doors for business on May 22nd 2009. In 2018 we celebrate the 10th anniversary season operating as once of France’s leading luxury B&Bs.

Throughout the restoration project, which included a complete re-wire and re-plumb of the entire property, we ensured that all original features were maintained. So when you stay at La Villa, you will walk on beautiful oak parquet flooring that we sanded and varnished by hand, ceilings & cornices re-painted to show off their former glory, intricate marble fireplaces (all 11 of them!) buffed & polished, the original art deco baths re-enameled and brought back to life….not to mention sanding and painting of 48 pairs of shutters!

All who have stayed at La Villa have remarked how tasteful and respectful our renovations have been – turning what is regarded locally as a landmark building, into a modern and sumptuous place to call “home” for all those who pass through our doors.

About Us

La Villa de Mazamet is owned and run by us, Peter & Mark. We lovingly restored one of Mazamet’s landmark buildings between 2005 and 2009, opening as a Bed & Breakfast on May 22nd 2009.

Both originally from the United Kingdom, Mark has 15 years experience as a hotelier, whilst Peter has worked for the same period in business development and marketing.

Having travelled extensively throughout the world, our move to France was the culmination of a dream to bring our experience of first class service, accommodation & food to all who come to stay.

Guest Facilities

We appreciate how important it is to feel relaxed and “at home” when on holiday. In addition to the facilities you will find in your own private air-conditioned bedrooms, we want you to feel relaxed in every part of La Villa whilst you are with us.

Inside, you will find two lounges – one quiet for reading or enjoying your favourite tipple before dinner, the other with magazines, board & card games, and a selection of over 200 movies on DVD which you can watch in the lounge or in your own bedroom.

A small library on the first floor has an eclectic mix of books which you can borrow throughout your stay (and we don’t mind if you take a paperback with you if you don’t finish it!).

For the ultimate relaxation, an afternoon in Le Petit Spa with its Jacuzzi & infa-red sauna may help to re-charge your batteries, or why not book a massage?

Outside space is also really important and our whole private walled garden, which was landscaped as part of our renovations, is open to guests with a sun terrace, gazebo with comfy sofa and chairs and swimming pool. At the rear of the garden you can also see our kitchen garden where we grow seasonal vegetables and herbs for use in our dishes.

La Villa offers guests the comfort of a complete smoke-free environment, including the gardens & pool area.
